Bolton Wonderers 95-97: Bolton received the last PL code 20 and had a total of 4 players released; Alan Stubbs, John McGinlay, Keith Branagan and Alan Thompson. A somewhat disappointing release considering the amount of masters actually made. Never released were David Lee, Chris Fairclough, Richard Sneekes, Nathan Blake, Gerry Taggart, Gudni Bergsson, Mixu Paatelainen, Fabien De Freitas, Steve McAnespie and Scott Sellers. Jason McAteer also received a master model although his pose and hair were altered for his Liverpool release. Repaint wise we has 3 players who made the switch to Bolton, they were John Sheridam, Jamie Pollock and Per Frandsen, all of whom played in this kit.
Custom Sculpts: With 4 players released, 11 masters made and 3 repaints available, that leaves me with a total of 8 custom sculpts to create. Those will be; Sasa Curcic, Andy Todd, Jimmy Phillips, Scott Green, Owen Coyle, Simon Coleman with the last two slots assigned to Manager Roy McFarland and Assistant manager Colin Todd.
Kit Usage: Villa's first outing in their new home strip was at Villa Park during the opening game of the 95/96 season. They faced Manchester United who fielded a young squad wearing their famous "cursed" grey away kit. Villa won 3-1 thanks to first half goals from Ian Taylor and Mark Draper with Dwight Yorke converting from the spot. David Beckham scored a late consolation goal but what people will probably remember most after this Villa victory was pundit Alan Hansen claiming that united "would never win anything with kids" - they went on to win the league this season.
This kit spanned over two seasons and it's difficult to find a visual for it's last outing but I believe it was worn against Southampton on the final day of the season at Villa Park, with the only goal coming cutesy of a Richard Dryden own goal.
Achievements 95-96:
Premier League: 20th (Relegated)
FA Cup: R4 (1-0 loss to Leeds United)
League Cup: R4 (0-0 Replay loss to Norwich City, 3-2 on penalties)
Achievements 96-97:
Division One: 1st (Promoted)
FA Cup: R4 (3-2 loss to Chesterfield)
League Cup: Quarter Finals (2-0 loss to Wimbledon)
The best and worst for Bolton Wanderers whist wearing this attire. Their first time appearing in the Premier League since it's incarnation in 1992 was brief. Bolton finished rock bottom and with such a large goal deficit they were 10 points off saving themselves. They exited both the FA Cup and League Cup in the forth round albeit to Premier League opposition Leeds United and Division One rivals Norwich City. Bolton did bounce straight back up though and in convincing style, claiming top spot in Division One, 18 points clear of their closest competition, Barnsley. They also progressed to the League Cup Quarter Finals where the wear beaten by the Premier Leagues Crazy Gang, Wimbledon.
Make & Sponsor: Bolton's kit was supplied by Reebok (English footwear and apparel manufacturer) who also sponsored them in a dual agreement. The kit Corinthian produced was very close to the original only omitting small details such as the fine dark blue trim that was present at the top of the sleeves and that also run from the shoulder to the collar. Corinthian did take the time to put the two dark blue lines and one red line on the v-neck of the collar - a design that matched Aston Villa who did not receive this detailing. However, there was supposed to be an inner white lining which should have covered up the neck, the shorts were missing the two vertical red lines and the socks were missing the two finer horizontal lines that should have been present mid-way. The tampo prints were a very good match capturing the unique shape of their club crest. Colour wise the blue chosen was too light, it needed to be a much darker navy colour. Even with these details missing it is still one of the better kits Corinthian produced
