Borussia Mönchengladbach 97-98: New comers Boro were assigned PL code "15" and also received fifteen sculpts in total (if you include Bryan Robson player and Manager versions). Corinthian only officially released eight in the 95-96 kit though, they were Nick Barmby, Jamie Pollock, John Hendire, Jamie Mareno, Juninho, Jan Aage Fjortoft, Neil Cox and Bryan Robson (player version only). Alan Miller, Craig Hignett, Nigel Pearson, Robbie Mustoe and Steve Vickers all had tool masters produced. Aside from Alan Miller (who was sold to West Brom come the 96-97 campaign) the other four players still featured heavily for Boro the next season, so it's odd that they were never released given they were ready to go. Brazilian defender Bronco was only planned for 96-97, however he did feature in this kit for Boro.
Custom Sculpts:
Kit Usage: Boro debuted their new kit at the beginning of the 95-96 campaign in which they drew 1-1 with Arsenal at Highbury. New signing Nick Barmby (who they bought in from Arsenal Rivals Tottenham Hotspur) netted his first goal for the club before Ian Wright pulled the gunners level. The final outing of this kit was on the last day of the 95-96 season against United at The Riverside who breezed past Boro in a 3-0 victory with goals courtesy of David May, Andy Cole and Ryan Giggs. By this point Boro were safe for another season, with nothing to play for (victory wouldn't move them above Chelsea) they finished 12th and 5 points clear of the drop.
Achievements 97-98:
Bundesliga: 15th
DFB-Pokal: R1 (1:1 draw AET, 5:4 Loss to Hannover 96 on penalties)
A very poor outing for The Foals who exited the German Cup in Round 1 and narrowly avoided relegation from The Bundesliga surviving on goal difference over Karlsruher SC (albeit a comfortable seven goal advantage). They also lost their controversial midfielder Steffen Effenberg at the end of the season who was to join Bayern Munich in his second spell with The Bavarians.
Make & Sponsor: The Foals kit was supplied by Reebok and Maxdata's (German PC Manufacturer - in this case their Monitor brand) product "Belinea" sponsored them. The kit looks fine at a glance with the bulk detail captured. However there was quite a lot to this kit. As per usual any fine lines were ignored, so the two black lines that ran from the sleeve to the collar are missing/ The neck of the shirt was a v-neck shape but the wasn't a collar present, Corinthian opting to paint over the collar which I probably would have also chosen. The collar and shirt sleeves also had a fine white line (which was also outlined in black) missing from the end product and I think Corinthian could have added this. The shirt sleeves and shorts had a black vertical line running down the side which also had white detailing as well as Reebok's logo in a repeated pattern printed through the middle. This was all changed to just a black vertical stripe. The socks had the club crest printed on the inner of both socks, this was also omitted and I can't blame Corinthian for not even attempting to try. The cost on adjusting and making the stock holds/molds and custom silicone print pads to do this would have held up production. The space available to print (and the positioning of the legs) would have made any attempt pretty futile. The kit did have a shine to it, almost like a dull silver, so it did change in certain lights but overall the grey chosen was actually an accurate choice.
